- 1.Three vertices of a rectangle are (−4, −1), (2, −1) and (2, 3). The sides of the rectangle are parallel to the axes. Write down the coordinates of the fourth vertex.
- 2.Work out the value of 5m² + 3m when m = −2.4
- 3.To solve 6x − 4 = 2x + 20, Yusuf's first step is to subtract 2x from both sides. Work out what equation this gives.
- 4.Write down the coordinates of the point that is 4 units to the left of the origin and 7 units up.
- 5.The solution to an inequality is n ≤ 5. Write down the largest integer value of n that satisfies this inequality.
- 6.Make x the subject of the formula y = 4(x − 6).
- 7.Work out the gradient of the straight line that passes through the points (−1, 5) and (3, −7).
- 8.A number machine multiplies its input by 2 and then subtracts 5. Work out the output when the input is 6.
- 9.Solve 2x + 7 = x + 13
- 10.To rearrange the formula y = 3x − 8 to make x the subject, Priya writes: 'Add 8 to both sides to get y + 8 = 3x, then divide both sides by 3 to get x = y + 8 ÷ 3.' Work out the correct expression for x.y = 3x − 8
- 11.A straight line has gradient −3 and passes through the point (0, 1). Work out the value of y when x = 2.
- 12.The formula for converting a distance in miles, m, to kilometres, k, is k = 8m ÷ 5. Work out k when m = 10.
- 13.The graph of y = x² − 2x − 8 takes these values: when x = −2, y = 0; when x = −1, y = −5; when x = 0, y = −8; when x = 3, y = −5; when x = 4, y = 0. Use these values to write down the two solutions of x² − 2x − 8 = 0.y = x² − 2x − 8
- 14.The braking distance of a car, in metres, is estimated using the formula d = 0.4v² + 6, where v is the speed in mph. A car travelling at 35 mph brakes. Work out the estimated braking distance.
- 15.y = x + 4. Work out the value of y when x = 3.y = x + 4
