- 1.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = 1, 2, 3, 4 and the matching outputs are y = −5, −3, −1 and one missing value. Work out the missing value of y.
- 2.The simultaneous equations x = 2 and x + y = 9 are given. Work out the value of y.
- 3.Jack is x years old. His brother Kwame is 3 years older than Jack. Write down an expression for Kwame's age.
- 4.Point R has coordinates (3, −5). Point R is reflected in the line y = 2 to point S. Write down the coordinates of S.
- 5.ABCD is a parallelogram. A has coordinates (−3, 1), B has coordinates (2, 1) and C has coordinates (4, 4). Work out the coordinates of D.

- 11.A number machine multiplies its input by 3. The output is 15. Work out the input.
- 12.Solve the inequality 2(3x − 1) ≥ 4x + 8.
- 13.Two numbers have a sum of 45. The larger number is 9 more than the smaller number. Form an equation using n for the smaller number, and solve it to find the larger number.
- 14.A sequence has the position-to-term rule: the nth term is 3n. Write down the first four terms of the sequence.
- 15.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = −1, 0, 1, 2 and the matching outputs are y = 5, 3, 1, −1. Work out the rule.
