- 1.A sequence starts at 2. Each term after that is found using the rule "double the previous term, then add 1". Work out the 4th term of the sequence.
- 2.Make m the subject of the formula w = m − 8.
- 3.A taxi fare in pounds is given by F = 2.50 + 1.20m, where m is the number of miles travelled. Sam takes a taxi for a journey of 6 miles. Work out the fare.
- 4.A box contains 6 chocolates. Write down an expression for the total number of chocolates in c boxes.
- 5.A straight line has gradient 3 and passes through the point (1, 4). Work out the equation of the line.
- 6.Amelia's mother is three times as old as Amelia. Four years ago her mother was five times as old as Amelia was then. Work out Amelia's age now.
- 7.A geometric sequence has first term 3 and common ratio 2. Work out the 5th term of the sequence.

- 13.A recipe gives the cooking time, in minutes, for a chicken as T = 40m + 20, where m is the mass in kg. A chicken has a mass of 1.8 kg. Work out the cooking time in hours and minutes.
- 14.The first four terms of a sequence are 4, 6, 8, 10. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the nth term.
- 15.Make a the subject of the formula b = 20 − a.
