- 1.A sequence has the position-to-term rule: the term is the position number multiplied by itself. Its first five terms are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25. Work out the 8th term.
- 2.A taxi firm charges a fixed fee of £3.50 plus £2.20 per mile. Work out the total cost of a journey of 6 miles.
- 3.A caterer uses the formula C = 6p + 20 to work out the total cost, £C, of a buffet for p people, where £20 covers fixed costs. A customer is charged £92. Work out how many people, p, the buffet was for.
- 4.Grace has t books. Noah has 1 book fewer than Grace. Write down an expression for the number of books Noah has.
- 5.Point P has coordinates (5, 2). Point P is rotated 180° about the origin to point Q. Write down the coordinates of Q.
- 6.The point D has coordinates (3, −8). Write down the distance of D from the y-axis.
- 7.Write down 0.2x with its coefficient written as a fraction in its simplest form.
- 8.Solve 6x + 4 = 28
- 9.A photo printing service has two adverts for its price. Advert A: cost in pounds = 3(2n + 4) for n photos. Advert B: cost in pounds = 6n + 12. A customer says the two adverts always charge the same amount. Is the customer correct?
- 10.Solve x² + 3x − 10 = 0.
- 11.A number machine adds 6 to its input. Work out the output when the input is −4.
- 12.Solve the simultaneous equations x + y = 1 and 2x + y = 5.
- 13.Write down the number of terms in the expression 4x² − 7x + 3.
- 14.Solve x² − 5x + 6 = 0 by factorising.
- 15.The formula for the profit, £P, made on an item is P = S − C, where S is the selling price and C is the cost price. Make S the subject of the formula.
