- 1.The first term of an arithmetic sequence is 5, and each term after that increases by 6. Work out the 8th term of the sequence.
- 2.The solution set of x ≥ −1 is drawn on a number line. Which description of that number line is correct?
- 3.A straight line has equation y = 5x. Work out the value of y when x = 3.y = 5x
- 4.A point has coordinates (−6, 9). Work out the sum of the x-coordinate and the y-coordinate.
- 5.A runner's journey is shown on a distance-time graph: she runs 8 km in the first hour, rests for 30 minutes with no distance gained, then runs a further 4 km in the next 30 minutes. Work out her average speed for the whole journey, in kilometres per hour.
- 6.Isla says that the lines y = 2x + 1 and y = −2x + 3 are parallel. Write down the statement that gives the correct answer for the correct reason.y = 2x + 1y = -2x + 3
- 7.A table shows values of y = x² − x − 6 for x from −3 to 4: at x = −3, y = 6; x = −2, y = 0; x = −1, y = −4; x = 0, y = −6; x = 1, y = −6; x = 2, y = −4; x = 3, y = 0; x = 4, y = 6. Using the table, write down the two roots of x² − x − 6 = 0.y = x²
- 8.Expand and simplify 4(2x − 1) − 3(x + 2) − 5x
- 9.Solve 2x − 2 = 2
- 10.The simultaneous equations y = 3 and 4x − y = 9 are given. Work out the value of x.
- 11.Work out the equation of the straight line through the points (−2, 1) and (0, 7).
- 12.A cinema sells adult tickets and child tickets. On one evening, 40 tickets are sold in total. There are 8 more adult tickets sold than child tickets. Work out the number of child tickets sold.
- 13.Grace says that 2(x + 1) and 2x + 2 always have the same value. Work out the value of both expressions when x = 3.
- 14.The graph of y = x² − 2x − 8 crosses the x-axis at x = −2 and x = 4. Work out the x-coordinate of the turning point of the curve, using the symmetry of the graph.y = x² − 2x − 8
- 15.y = 3x − 2. Work out the value of y when x = 4.y = 3x − 2
