- 1.The graph of y = 24/x is drawn for x > 0. Work out the value of y when x = 6.
- 2.The formula for converting a distance in miles, m, to kilometres, k, is k = 8m ÷ 5. Work out k when m = 10.
- 3.Solve 5x + 2 = 17.
- 4.A cinema sells adult tickets for £10 and child tickets for £6. A family group buys 9 tickets in total, spending £74. Work out how many adult tickets were bought.
- 5.The nth term of a sequence is 4n − 3. Work out the 7th term of the sequence.
- 6.A point has coordinates (x, y). In which two quadrants is the product x × y positive?
- 7.A car's speed-time graph shows the following: its speed increases steadily from 0 m/s to 20 m/s over the first 10 seconds, then stays constant at 20 m/s for the next 15 seconds. Work out the total distance travelled in the first 25 seconds.
- 8.A student says that (x + 4)² is equivalent to x² + 16. For which value of x do the two expressions give the SAME result, making it look (misleadingly) like the student could be right?
- 9.A number, n, is doubled and then 7 is subtracted. The result is 15. Form an equation and solve it to find n.
- 10.Two numbers have a sum of 24. Their difference is 6. Work out the two numbers.
- 11.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = 1, 2, 3, 4 and the matching outputs are y = −5, −3, −1 and one missing value. Work out the missing value of y.
- 12.Solve x² − 6x = 0.
- 13.Rosie is asked whether 4(x + 3) = 4x + 12 is an equation or an identity. Which statement is correct? Give a reason for your answer.
- 14.The triangular numbers begin 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, ... Work out the next term in the sequence.
