- 3.A graph has equation y = x² − 6x + 5. A student says its turning point has x-coordinate 6, because that's the coefficient of x. Which statement corrects the student's mistake?y = x² − 6x + 5
- 4.A straight line has equation y = 5x. Work out the value of y when x = 3.y = 5x
- 5.A scout leader is 44 years old and one of the scouts is 16 years old. Work out how many years it will be until the leader is exactly twice as old as the scout.
- 6.A hot air balloon is at a height of 20 m and rises at a steady rate. After 4 minutes it is at a height of 52 m. Work out the rate at which the balloon rises, in metres per minute.
- 7.Work out the value of 3n − 2 when n = 1
- 8.Make x the subject of the formula y = 3(x + 2).
- 9.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 2, where n is the position number. Work out the 6th term.
- 10.Write down the number of terms in the expression 4x² − 7x + 3.
- 11.A park is drawn on a grid in which 1 unit represents 1 km. The car park is at the point (0, 0) and the lake is at the point (3, 5). Work out the direct distance, in km, from the car park to the lake, giving your answer to 1 decimal place.

- 13.Oliver has m stickers and gives 5 of them away. The number he has left is L = m − 5. Work out L when m = 8.
- 14.A rectangle is x cm wide and twice as long as it is wide, so its area A cm² is given by A = 2x². Work out A when x = 3.
- 15.The area of a triangle is given by the formula A = bh/2, where b is the base and h is the height. Make h the subject of the formula.
