- 1.Make c the subject of the formula k = 6c.
- 2.y = 5x − 1. Work out the value of y when x = 3.y = 5x − 1
- 3.Solve x² − 2x − 24 = 0.
- 4.A runner's journey is shown on a distance-time graph: she runs 8 km in the first hour, rests for 30 minutes with no distance gained, then runs a further 4 km in the next 30 minutes. Work out her average speed for the whole journey, in kilometres per hour.
- 5.The formula for converting a distance in miles, m, to kilometres, k, is k = 8m ÷ 5. Work out k when m = 10.

- 8.A candle is 30 cm tall when lit and burns at a constant rate. After burning for 5 minutes, its height is 20 cm. The height h cm after t minutes is given by h = 30 − mt. Work out the value of m.
- 9.The point F has x-coordinate −1 and lies 6 units above the x-axis. Write down the coordinates of F.

- 11.The volume of a cuboid is given by the formula V = lwh. Work out V, in cm³, when l = 2, w = 3 and h = 6.
- 12.A caterer uses the formula C = 6p + 20 to work out the total cost, £C, of a buffet for p people, where £20 covers fixed costs. A customer is charged £92. Work out how many people, p, the buffet was for.
- 13.y = 3x − 2. Work out the value of y when x = 4.y = 3x − 2
- 14.a = 3 and b = 5. Work out the value of a²b.
- 15.y = 5 − 2x. Work out the value of x when y = 11.
