- 1.Tom is asked to classify the statement 5(2x − 3) = 10x − 15. Which statement about it is correct?
- 2.A rule turns each input into an output. An input of 0 gives an output of −1, an input of 1 gives an output of 1, and an input of 2 gives an output of 3. Work out the rule, writing the input as x and the output as y.
- 3.Write down the expression that means the same as (x + 7) ÷ 4.
- 4.A market stall's cost of hiring n tables is modelled by two formulas: Formula A: C = 3(2n + 5); Formula B: C = 6n + 15, where C is in pounds. A stallholder says the two formulas always give the same cost. Work out the cost given by each formula when n = 4, and use your results to decide whether the stallholder is correct.

- 6.Solve 6x − 5 = 3x + 13.
- 7.A gym charges a joining fee plus a monthly fee. Anna paid £100 in total after 3 months of membership. Ben paid £160 in total after 6 months of membership (same joining fee and monthly fee as Anna). Work out the monthly fee.
- 8.A quadratic curve has a minimum turning point at (3, −4). Which of these statements about the curve must be true?
- 9.A conversion graph shows that 5 miles is equivalent to 8 kilometres. Use this to work out how many kilometres are equivalent to 20 miles.

- 11.A stack of firewood has 3 logs in the top layer. Each layer below has 4 more logs than the layer above it. Work out the number of logs in the 6th layer from the top.
- 12.The formula for the perimeter of a square is P = 4s, where s is the side length. Make s the subject of the formula.
- 13.The simultaneous equations 2x + 3y = 12 and x − y = 1 are given. Work out the value of y.
- 14.Work out the value of 3n − 2 when n = 1
- 15.The first five square numbers are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25. Write down the next square number in the sequence.
