- 1.Solve the inequality 3x + 6 ≤ 0.
- 2.Make b the subject of the formula a = 5b.
- 3.Write down the coordinates of the point where the line y = 2x + 4 crosses the y-axis.y = 2x + 4
- 4.A sequence has the position-to-term rule: the term is the position number multiplied by itself. Its first five terms are 1, 4, 9, 16, 25. Work out the 8th term.
- 5.A parcel delivery company's cost graph shows the following: the cost is a flat £5 for parcels weighing up to 2 kg, and then rises by £2 for each additional kg above 2 kg. Use the graph to work out the weight of a parcel that costs £17.
- 6.Solve the simultaneous equations 3x + 2y = 16 and x + y = 7. Work out the value of y.
- 7.y = x + 4. Work out the value of y when x = 3.y = x + 4
- 8.Make x the subject of the formula y = 5x + 3.y = 5x + 3
- 9.A straight line has gradient −3 and passes through the point (0, 1). Work out the value of y when x = 2.
- 10.The perimeter, P, of a rectangle with length l and width w is calculated using P = 2l + 2w. What kind of mathematical statement is P = 2l + 2w?
- 11.Work out the coordinates of the reflection of (6, −3) in the y-axis.
- 12.A car's fuel tank contains 50 litres when it starts a journey. After travelling for 2 hours, it contains 38 litres, and fuel is used at a constant rate. Work out the rate at which fuel is used, in litres per hour.
- 13.A straight line has gradient −2 and passes through the point (3, 1). Work out the equation of the line.
- 14.A number, n, is doubled and then 7 is subtracted. The result is 15. Form an equation and solve it to find n.
- 15.A market stall's cost of hiring n tables is modelled by two formulas: Formula A: C = 3(2n + 5); Formula B: C = 6n + 15, where C is in pounds. A stallholder says the two formulas always give the same cost. Work out the cost given by each formula when n = 4, and use your results to decide whether the stallholder is correct.
