- 1.Six years ago Harry was three times as old as his brother Leo. Harry is now 24 years old. Work out Leo's age now.
- 2.Solve x² + 3x − 10 = 0.
- 3.A square has sides of length y cm. Write down an expression for the perimeter of the square.
- 4.A cinema sells adult tickets and child tickets. On one evening, 40 tickets are sold in total. There are 8 more adult tickets sold than child tickets. Work out the number of child tickets sold.
- 5.The first five terms of a quadratic sequence are 2, 5, 10, 17, 26. Work out the next term in the sequence.

- 10.A tank already contains some water and is then filled at a constant rate. After 2 minutes it contains 50 litres in total; after 7 minutes it contains 150 litres in total. Work out the rate at which water is added, in litres per minute.
- 11.Rosie is asked whether 4(x + 3) = 4x + 12 is an equation or an identity. Which statement is correct? Give a reason for your answer.
- 12.A sequence has the position-to-term rule: the term is the square of the position number. Its first four terms are 1, 4, 9, 16. Work out the 10th term.
- 13.A number machine multiplies its input by 5. Work out the output when the input is −1.
- 14.The first term of an arithmetic sequence is 5, and each term after that increases by 6. Work out the 8th term of the sequence.
