- 1.The simultaneous equations y = 3 and 4x − y = 9 are given. Work out the value of x.
- 2.Simplify 5x + 3y − 2x + y.
- 3.Work out the gradient of the straight line with equation 2x + y = 8.
- 4.The graph of y = 24/x is drawn for x > 0. Work out the value of y when x = 6.
- 5.A car's speed increases steadily while it accelerates. Its speed v m/s after t seconds is given by v = u + at, where u is the starting speed in m/s and a is the acceleration in m/s². A car starts at u = 4 m/s and accelerates at a = 2 m/s² until it reaches v = 20 m/s. Work out t, the time taken in seconds.
- 6.Work out the value of a² − 2b when a = −3 and b = 4.
- 7.Tom is asked to classify the statement 5(2x − 3) = 10x − 15. Which statement about it is correct?
- 8.How many turning points does the graph of y = x² − 7x + 10 have?y = x² − 7x + 10
- 9.A number, w, satisfies the statement "three times w, minus 5, is at least 16". Which of these is the correct inequality for w?
- 10.The graph of y = 20/x is drawn for x > 0. As the value of x increases, what happens to the value of y?
- 11.Work out the value of 5y + 9 when y = 0
- 12.Factorise fully 5x + 5y − 5
- 13.Make m the subject of the formula w = m − 8.
- 14.A pattern is made from tiles. Pattern 1 has 7 tiles, pattern 2 has 11 tiles, pattern 3 has 15 tiles, and pattern 4 has 19 tiles, with each new pattern having 4 more tiles than the one before it. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the number of tiles in pattern n.
- 15.The first four terms of a sequence are 2, 6, 10, 14. Priya says the nth term is 4n. Work out the correct expression for the nth term.
