- 1.A straight line has gradient 3 and passes through the point (1, 4). Work out the equation of the line.
- 2.Write down the y-intercept of the line with equation y = 3x + 8.y = 3x + 8
- 3.Yusuf has £40 saved and adds £6 each week. His sister Aisha has £10 saved and adds £11 each week. After how many weeks will they have saved the same amount?
- 4.The graph of y = x² − 2x − 8 crosses the x-axis at x = −2 and x = 4. Work out the x-coordinate of the turning point of the curve, using the symmetry of the graph.y = x² − 2x − 8
- 5.Noah says that y = 3 is the solution of the equation y + 10 = 12. Noah is wrong. Work out the correct value of y.
- 6.The graph of a straight line has equation y = 4x − 5. Beth says the y-intercept is 4. Work out the correct y-intercept.y = 4x − 5
- 7.The solution to an inequality is n ≤ 5. Write down the largest integer value of n that satisfies this inequality.
- 8.Make x the subject of the formula y = 4x − 3.y = 4x − 3
- 9.A taxi charges a fixed fee of £3 plus £2 for every mile travelled. The journey is m miles. Write down an expression for the total cost, in pounds.
- 10.The graph of t = 240 ÷ s shows how the time, t hours, taken for a car journey of 240 miles depends on its average speed, s mph. Use the relationship to work out the time taken when the average speed is 48 mph.
- 11.The formula for the perimeter of a rectangle is P = 2(l + w). One rectangle has l = 9 cm and w = 4 cm. A second rectangle has l = 6 cm and w = 5 cm. Work out how many cm greater the perimeter of the first rectangle is than the perimeter of the second.
- 12.The formula connecting speed, distance and time is v = s ÷ t. Work out v, in km/h, when s = 180 and t = 4.
- 13.Factorise fully 56x − 24
- 14.Solve x² − 5x + 6 = 0 by factorising.
- 15.Priya has a budget of £50 for a school trip. The coach costs £14 and each student ticket costs £4. Using the inequality 14 + 4s ≤ 50, work out the greatest number of student tickets, s, she can buy.
