- 1.A printer starts a job with 480 sheets of paper loaded and prints at a steady rate. The number of sheets left, S, after t minutes is given by S = 480 − 24t. Work out how many minutes it takes for the paper to run out completely.
- 2.Given that (x − 4)(x + 9) = 0, write down the two solutions of x.
- 3.A car park charges by the hour. Parking for 1 hour costs £5, 2 hours costs £9, 3 hours costs £13 and 4 hours costs £17, with the cost increasing by the same amount for each extra hour. Work out an expression, in terms of n, for the cost, in pounds, of parking for n hours.
- 4.Make x the subject of the formula y = 4(x − 6).
- 5.Work out the y-intercept of the graph of y = x² + 3x − 10.y = x² + 3x − 10
- 6.Priya says that x = 6 is the solution of the equation 4x + 8 = 24. Priya is wrong. Work out the correct value of x.
- 7.Which expression is equivalent to 0.5(4x + 6) − x?
- 8.A water tank empties according to y = −5x + 200, where y is the number of litres left after x minutes. Work out the coordinates of the point where this graph crosses the x-axis.y = -5x + 200
- 9.In a sequence, each term is half the term before it. The sequence begins 100, 50, 25. Write down the next term.
- 10.Meera writes the statement 3(x + 4) = 3x + 12. Which of these correctly describes what she has written, with a reason?

- 13.A person's body mass index is given by the formula B = m ÷ h², where m is the mass in kg and h is the height in metres. Work out B, to 1 decimal place, when m = 68 and h = 1.6.
- 14.A rectangle has area 24x + 18. Ffion factorises the area as 6(4x + 3). Work out the value of the area when x = 2, and decide whether 6 and (4x + 3) are correctly identified as factors of 24x + 18.
