- 1.Make x the subject of the formula y = 4(x − 6).
- 2.Solve 3(2x − 1) = 27
- 3.A rule turns each input x into an output y. The inputs are x = −1, 0, 1, 2 and the matching outputs are y = 5, 3, 1, −1. Work out the rule.
- 4.Simplify k + k + k + k + k.
- 5.Write down the expression that means the same as p + p + p + q.
- 6.Work out the value of n² − n when n = −3
- 7.Which expression means 'y squared, multiplied by 3'?
- 8.Simplify (5x² + 3x − 2) − (2x² − x + 5)
- 9.Simplify 2b − 1 + 2b − 4 + 2b
- 10.A rule turns each input x into an output y. An input of 1 gives an output of 1, an input of 2 gives an output of 4 and an input of 3 gives an output of 9. Work out the rule.
- 11.The point A is at (5, −3). In which quadrant does A lie?
- 12.Work out the value of m² + 3m when m = −2
- 13.The graph of W = 840 ÷ L shows how the width, W metres, of a rectangular field of area 840 m² depends on its length, L metres. Use the relationship to work out the width when the length is 35 m, and hence the perimeter of the field.
- 14.A speed-time graph for a car shows the speed increasing steadily from 5 m/s to 17 m/s over 6 seconds. Work out the acceleration of the car, in m/s².
- 15.A rectangle has width x cm. Its length is 3 cm more than its width. The perimeter of the rectangle is 38 cm. Form an equation and solve it to find x.
