- 1.A sequence has the position-to-term rule n² + 2, where n is the position number. Work out the 6th term.
- 2.A student solves the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 11 and x − y = 1 by elimination, adding the two equations together. Which of these is the correct result of that step?
- 3.A cinema sells adult tickets for £10 and child tickets for £6. A family group buys 9 tickets in total, spending £74. Work out how many adult tickets were bought.
- 4.A printer starts a job with 480 sheets of paper loaded and prints at a steady rate. The number of sheets left, S, after t minutes is given by S = 480 − 24t. Work out how many minutes it takes for the paper to run out completely.
- 5.Leo is three times as old as his brother. His brother is x years old. Write down an expression for Leo's age.
- 6.Which expression is equivalent to 3(2x − 5) + 4x?
- 7.Simplify 5x + 3y − 2x + y.
- 8.y = 5 − 2x. Work out the value of x when y = 11.
- 9.A square has vertices at (−2, 3), (−2, −3) and (4, −3). Write down the coordinates of the fourth vertex.
- 10.Which of these equations gives a graph with two separate curved branches — one where x and y are both positive, and one where x and y are both negative?
- 11.The triangular numbers begin 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, ... Work out the next term in the sequence.
- 12.The nth term of a sequence is 2n − 1. Work out the 6th term of the sequence.
- 13.A table shows y = x² − 6x + 5 at these points (x, y): (0, 5), (1, 0), (2, −3), (3, −4), (4, −3), (5, 0), (6, 5). Using the symmetry shown, write down the x-coordinate of the turning point.y = x² − 6x + 5
