- 1.Make x the subject of the formula y = (x − 4)/5.
- 2.Work out the equation of the straight line that passes through (−2, 3) and (4, −9).
- 3.A ball is thrown in the air. Its height, h metres, above the ground after t seconds is given in this table: when t = 0, h = 0; when t = 1, h = 15; when t = 2, h = 20; when t = 3, h = 15; when t = 4, h = 0. Use the table to find the two times, in seconds, at which the ball is at ground level.
- 4.Solve the simultaneous equations 2x + y = 7 and x − y = 2.
- 5.The solution to an inequality is n ≤ 5. Write down the largest integer value of n that satisfies this inequality.
- 6.The height, h metres, of a ball t seconds after a stopwatch is started follows h = (t − 1)(5 − t) for 1 ≤ t ≤ 5, where h = 0 means the ball is at ground level. Work out the two times at which the ball is at ground level.
- 7.A tank already contains some water and is then filled at a constant rate. After 2 minutes it contains 50 litres in total; after 7 minutes it contains 150 litres in total. Work out the rate at which water is added, in litres per minute.
- 8.Grace has t books. Noah has 1 book fewer than Grace. Write down an expression for the number of books Noah has.
- 9.Make x the subject of the formula y = 4x − 3.y = 4x − 3
- 10.A ferry's distance-time graph is a straight line from (0 minutes, 0 km) to (25 minutes, 15 km). Work out the ferry's speed in kilometres per hour.
- 11.A quadratic curve has a root at x = −2 and its turning point has x-coordinate 3. Work out the curve's other root, using the symmetry of the graph.
- 12.The simultaneous equations x = 2 and x + y = 9 are given. Work out the value of y.
- 13.Solve x² = 49.
- 14.Solve 2(x + 3) = 10
- 15.The formula for converting a temperature from degrees Celsius, C, to degrees Fahrenheit, F, is F = 1.8C + 32. Work out F when C = 20, and identify what kind of mathematical statement F = 1.8C + 32 is.
