- 1.Write down the expression that means the same as m² × m × 3.
- 2.A quadratic curve has a minimum turning point at (3, −4). Which of these statements about the curve must be true?
- 3.On Monday, a runner covers 15 km in 2.5 hours. On Tuesday, she covers 12 km in 1.5 hours. Using the formula speed = distance ÷ time, work out on which day she ran faster, and by how much.
- 4.Priya has a budget of £50 for a school trip. The coach costs £14 and each student ticket costs £4. Using the inequality 14 + 4s ≤ 50, work out the greatest number of student tickets, s, she can buy.
- 5.A ball is dropped and bounces. The height of each bounce after the first is 8 cm less than the bounce before it. The first bounce reaches 60 cm. Work out the height of the 5th bounce.
- 6.A candle is 30 cm tall and burns down at a steady rate of 1 cm per hour. Write down the function for the height of the candle y, in centimetres, after x hours.
- 7.Simplify 5x + 3y − 2x + y.
- 8.Work out the value of a² − 2b when a = −3 and b = 4.
- 9.Make b the subject of the formula a = 5b.
- 10.The first four terms of a sequence are 11, 18, 25, 32. Ravi thinks the nth term is 7n. Work out the correct expression for the nth term.
- 11.The formula for the circumference of a circle is C = 2πr, where r is the radius. Make r the subject of the formula.
- 12.Expand 2(x − 13)
- 13.Solve 2x² − 32 = 0.
- 14.Grace says that 2(x + 1) and 2x + 2 always have the same value. Work out the value of both expressions when x = 3.
- 15.A table shows y = x² − 6x + 5 at these points (x, y): (0, 5), (1, 0), (2, −3), (3, −4), (4, −3), (5, 0), (6, 5). Using the symmetry shown, write down the x-coordinate of the turning point.y = x² − 6x + 5
