- 1.A circular table mat has diameter 20 cm. Yasmin has a 70 cm length of ribbon and sews it around the edge of the mat with no overlap. Using π = 3.14, work out how much ribbon is left over after going around the mat once.
- 2.A diameter divides a circle into two equal halves. Write down the special name given to each of these two halves.
- 3.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 4.A straight line is drawn from the centre of a circle to a point on the circle. Write down the name of this line.
- 5.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
- 6.Two points on a circle divide its circumference into two arcs of different lengths. Write down the name given to the shorter of the two arcs.
- 7.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° at the centre. Write down what fraction of the whole circle this sector represents.
- 8.A circle has a diameter of 4 cm. Work out the radius of the circle.
- 9.A sector of a circle is bounded by two straight edges and one curved edge. Write down the mathematical term for each of the two straight edges.
- 10.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 11.A tangent to a circle touches the circle at exactly one point, P. Work out the size of the angle between the tangent and the radius drawn to P.
- 12.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 13.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 14.A tangent touches a circle with centre O at the point P. Q is a point on the tangent. Write down the circle fact that tells you the size of angle OPQ.
- 15.The curved part of a circle's circumference, between two points on the circle, has its own name. Write down this name.
