- 1.A circular table mat has diameter 20 cm. Yasmin has a 70 cm length of ribbon and sews it around the edge of the mat with no overlap. Using π = 3.14, work out how much ribbon is left over after going around the mat once.
- 2.A line segment joins two points on the circumference of a circle, without necessarily passing through the centre. Write down the general term for this line segment.
- 3.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 4.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 5.A trundle wheel has a diameter of 0.5 m. It is rolled along the ground and makes 20 complete turns. Using π = 3.14, work out the total distance rolled, in metres.
- 6.A straight line is drawn from the centre of a circle to a point on the circle. Write down the name of this line.
- 7.A circle has a diameter of 4 cm. Work out the radius of the circle.
- 8.A straight line touches the edge of a circle at exactly one point and does not cross into the circle at all. Write down the term for this line.
- 9.A circle has centre O. Radii OA and OB are drawn, together with the arc AB, enclosing a sector. The straight chord AB is also drawn. Write down the name of the region enclosed between the chord AB and the arc AB.
- 10.A circle has centre O. PQ, RS and TU are three chords of the circle, and only one of them passes through O. Write down what this tells you about that chord.
- 11.A diameter divides a circle into two equal halves. Write down the special name given to each of these two halves.
- 12.A chord is drawn across a circle, dividing the circle into two regions. Write down the name of one of these two regions.
- 13.A circle has diameter 10 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the circumference of the circle.
- 14.A tangent to a circle touches the circle at exactly one point, P. Work out the size of the angle between the tangent and the radius drawn to P.
- 15.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
