- 1.A circle has a diameter of 4 cm. Work out the radius of the circle.
- 2.A straight line is drawn from the centre of a circle to a point on the circle. Write down the name of this line.
- 3.A chord divides a circle into two regions, one larger than the other. Write down the term used for the smaller of these two regions.
- 4.A tangent to a circle with centre O touches the circle at point P, where OP = 5 cm. Point Q lies on the tangent so that PQ = 12 cm. Using the fact that a tangent is perpendicular to the radius at the point of contact, work out the length OQ.
- 5.A circle has two straight radii drawn from the centre to the edge, together with the arc between them. Write down the name of the region enclosed by these two radii and the arc.
- 6.Write down the term for the distance all the way around the edge of a circle.
- 7.Two circles are drawn with the same centre but different radii. Write down the term used to describe this pair of circles.
- 8.A sector of a circle is bounded by two straight edges and one curved edge. Write down the mathematical term for each of the two straight edges.
- 9.Every point on a circle is exactly the same distance from one particular point. Write down the name of that point.
- 10.A diameter divides a circle into two equal halves. Write down the special name given to each of these two halves.
- 11.A circle has centre O. PQ, RS and TU are three chords of the circle, and only one of them passes through O. Write down what this tells you about that chord.
- 12.A cyclist rides around a perfectly circular track with centre O. At every moment of the ride, the distance from O to the cyclist is exactly the same. Which term names this fixed distance?
- 13.A circle has circumference 31.4 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 14.A circle has a radius of 3 cm. Work out the diameter of the circle.
- 15.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° at the centre. Write down what fraction of the whole circle this sector represents.
