- 1.A sailmaker cuts two triangular sail panels from a pattern. Panel X has a 10 m side, with angles of 50° and 75° at its two ends. Panel Y also has a 10 m side, with angles of 50° and 75° at its two ends, in the same arrangement. The sailmaker wants to check the panels will match exactly, without cutting a third measurement. Which condition proves the two panels are congruent?
- 2.In a right-angled triangle, θ is one of the acute angles. Write down the trigonometric ratio, in terms of the opposite and adjacent sides, that is used to find θ.
- 3.A plumber charges a £45 call-out fee, plus £28 for each hour worked. She works on a job for 3 hours 30 minutes, and her hours are billed by rounding up to the next whole hour. Work out the total amount she charges.
- 4.A cylindrical water tank has a solid hemispherical dome on top, both with radius 2 m. Work out the volume of the hemispherical dome alone. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 3 decimal places.
- 5.Write down which quadrant contains the point (−3, 5) when plotted on a coordinate grid.
- 6.Two straight lines PQ and RS cross at point O. Angle POR = 52°. Work out angle QOS.

- 8.A car's windscreen wiper blade is 40 cm long and sweeps through an angle of 110° as it wipes the glass. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of glass it wipes, to the nearest cm².
- 9.The point (0, −5) lies on one of the two coordinate axes. Write down which axis this is.
- 10.A trapezium has parallel sides of length 6 cm and 10 cm, and a perpendicular height of 4 cm. Work out its area.
- 11.A room measures 4.2 m by 3.6 m. A flooring company needs the area in cm² to order the right amount of vinyl flooring. Work out the area of the room in cm².
