- 1.A translation moves the point (1, 1) to the point (9, 4). Write down the column vector of this translation.
- 2.A train leaves Leeds at 08:47 and arrives in London at 11:05. Work out how long the journey takes.
- 3.A ship sails 12 km on a bearing of 070° from a harbour to a buoy. It then sails a further 9 km, still on a bearing of 070°, from the buoy to a lighthouse. How far is the lighthouse from the harbour, in kilometres?
- 4.A solid is a single cube. Its plan view (from above), front elevation (from the front) and side elevation (from the side) are drawn separately. What shape is each of these three views?
- 5.p is the column vector with top number 4 and bottom number −3. Work out 2p, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 6.How many vertices does a square-based pyramid have?
- 7.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 29 cm and one shorter side of 20 cm. Work out the length of the other shorter side.
- 8.The diagram shows a solid built from identical cubes. How many squares are in its plan view, the view looking straight down from above?
- 9.A circular coaster has a radius of 4 cm. Work out the circumference of the coaster. Give your answer in terms of π.
- 10.Quadrilateral WXYZ has WX parallel to ZY, and WZ = XY (the two non-parallel sides are equal in length). Give a reason why angle W = angle X.
- 11.Write down the mathematical name for a quadrilateral that has exactly one pair of parallel sides.
- 12.Two sides of a triangle are 9 cm and 15 cm long. Write down which one of these lengths is possible for the third side.
- 13.p is the column vector with top number 5 and bottom number 2. q is the column vector with top number 1 and bottom number 6. Work out p + q, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 14.A roof truss is shaped like an isosceles triangle resting on a horizontal ceiling joist. The truss's sloping edges are equal in length, and the angle at its apex is 40°. The ceiling joist continues in a straight line beyond the foot of the truss. Work out the angle between the truss's sloping edge and the extended joist, on the outside of the truss.
- 15.A chord is drawn across a circle, dividing the circle into two regions. Write down the name of one of these two regions.
