- 1.To construct the perpendicular from a point P to a line l, where P is a point above l, an arc centred at P is drawn to cross l at two points, X and Y. What is the correct next step?
- 2.The diagram shows the plan view and the front elevation of a cuboid-shaped box, each drawn as a rectangle. Work out the area of the box's side elevation, in square centimetres.
- 3.A solid has 10 vertices and 15 edges. Using the formula F + V − E = 2, work out how many faces it has.
- 4.The diagram shows the plan, front elevation and side elevation of a solid. Which solid could this be?
- 5.A solid is built from centimetre cubes: a base layer of 2 rows of 3 cubes each (a 3 by 2 rectangle of cubes), with one extra cube placed on top of one corner cube of that base. Looking down from directly above (the plan view), how many squares are visible?
- 6.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm and one of its other angles is 45°. Work out the length of one of the two shorter sides. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 7.Which pair of points lies on a horizontal line when the points are plotted on a coordinate grid?
- 8.Triangle T has a vertex at (8, 4). It is enlarged by a scale factor of 1/2, centre (2, 4). Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
- 9.A cuboid-shaped shipping crate has a length of 12 m, a width of 5 m, and a volume of 360 m³. Work out the height of the crate, in metres.
- 10.State whether the line segment joining A(−4, 3) and B(2, 6) is horizontal, vertical or neither, and give a reason for your answer.
- 11.Postcard P is similar to postcard Q. The 6 cm side of P corresponds to the 15 cm side of Q, and the 8 cm side of P corresponds to a matching side of Q. Work out the length of that matching side of Q.
- 12.Write down the exact value of tan 60°.
- 13.Triangle A has a vertex at (1, 2). Triangle A is enlarged, centre (1, 1), to give triangle B, whose corresponding vertex is at (1, 5). Work out the scale factor of the enlargement.
- 14.A model of a bridge is built to a scale where every length on the model is 1/240 of the matching length on the real bridge. A support beam on the model measures 3.6 cm. Work out the length of the real support beam, giving your answer in metres.
- 15.A parallelogram has a base of 4 cm and a perpendicular height of 17 cm. Work out the area of the parallelogram.
