- 1.In geometry, which of the following best describes a 'plane'?
- 2.Quadrilateral ABCD has vertices A(1, 1), B(5, 1), C(5, 4) and D(1, 4). The quadrilateral is translated by the vector . Which of these points is NOT a vertex of the image?
- 3.Rectangle ABCD has vertices A(−1, 2), B(4, 2), C(4, 5) and D(−1, 5). The rectangle is translated so that C moves to (0, −1). Write down the coordinates of the image of A.
- 4.A triangle has vertices A(1, 1), B(5, 1) and C(5, 4). Work out the lengths of AB, BC and CA, and write down whether triangle ABC is right-angled.
- 5.A bead starts at position (2, −1) on a grid, in centimetres. It is moved by the column vector u, with top number 3 and bottom number 5, and then moved by the column vector v, with top number −7 and bottom number 2. Work out the coordinates of the bead's final position.
- 6.A treasure map has a scale of 1 cm to 4 m. A path from the start to a rock is drawn as two straight sections, measuring 3 cm and 2.5 cm. Work out the total real distance from the start to the rock, in metres.
- 7.Write down the number of lines of symmetry a rhombus has.
- 8.The diagram shows the plan of the base layer of a solid built from identical cubes. A second layer of cubes is added on top, filling the entire base layer to a height of 2 cubes everywhere. Work out how many squares are visible in the plan view of this solid.
- 9.A water tank is a cube with edges of length 2 m. Work out how many cubic centimetres the tank holds when it is full.
- 10.Triangle ABC has a right angle at B, hypotenuse AC = 13 cm and AB = 5 cm. Triangle DEF has a right angle at E, hypotenuse DF = 13 cm and DE = 5 cm. Which condition proves the two triangles are congruent?
- 11.A zip-wire is fixed at an angle of 60° to the horizontal ground. The zip-wire is 12 m long. Using the exact value of cos 60°, work out the exact horizontal distance it covers.
- 12.A raised garden bed is a prism whose cross-section is a triangle with a base of 1.2 m and a perpendicular height of 0.8 m. The bed is 3 m long. Work out the volume of soil needed to fill it, in m³.
- 13.A polygon has 12 straight sides. What is the mathematical name for this polygon?
- 14.Work out the distance between the point (0, 0) and the point (5, 12).
- 15.A circular clock face has a diameter of 18 cm. Work out the circumference of the clock face. Use π = 3.14.
