- 1.Work out the length of the straight line segment joining the points (2, −4) and (−3, −4).
- 2.The column vector r has top number 2 and bottom number 6. Which of these column vectors is parallel to r?
- 3.A plumber charges a £45 call-out fee, plus £28 for each hour worked. She works on a job for 3 hours 30 minutes, and her hours are billed by rounding up to the next whole hour. Work out the total amount she charges.
- 4.A rectangular photograph has an area of 96 cm². One of its sides is 8 cm long. Work out the length of the other side.
- 5.In triangle ABC the angle at C is 90°, AC = 8 cm and the angle at A is 30°. Work out the length of BC. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 6.A tank holds 3.2 m³ of water. Work out this volume in litres.
- 7.A translation is described by the column vector . Write down the column vector of the translation that undoes it.
- 8.A tile is described as having two pairs of parallel sides, four equal sides, and diagonals that cross at right angles but are not equal in length. Give a reason why this tile cannot be a square.
- 9.u is the column vector with top number 7 and bottom number 3. v is the column vector with top number 2 and bottom number 5. Work out u − v, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 10.Shape S has a vertex at (9, 6). It is enlarged by a scale factor of 1/3, centre the origin. Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
- 11.A triangular prism has a cross-section that is a triangle with a base of 3.5 cm and a perpendicular height of 4 cm. The prism is 10 cm long. Work out the volume of the prism.
- 12.A quadrilateral has vertices A(1, 1), B(5, 1), C(6, 4) and D(2, 4). By comparing the y-coordinates of A, B and of D, C, write down whether the sides AB and DC are parallel, and give a reason for your answer.
- 13.A tent's sloping side makes an angle of 45° with the ground. The sloping side is 3√2 m long. Using the exact value of sin 45°, work out the exact height of the tent.
- 14.A cube has all of its edges the same length. How many planes of symmetry does it have?
- 15.A circular pizza base has a radius of 12 cm. Work out the area of the pizza base. Use π = 3.14.
