- 1.A trapezium-shaped garden bed has parallel sides of 2.5 m and 4.5 m, and a perpendicular width of 3 m. A gardener wants to know the area of the bed before ordering topsoil. Work out the area of the garden bed.
- 2.How many edges does a triangular prism have?
- 3.A fish tank is a cuboid measuring 40 cm long, 25 cm wide and 30 cm high. Water is poured in to a depth of 20 cm. Work out the volume of water in the tank, in litres.
- 4.Triangle ABC has AB = 6 cm and BC = 9 cm, with angle A = 40°. Triangle DEF has DE = 6 cm and EF = 9 cm, with angle D = 40°. Meera says these facts prove the triangles are congruent by SAS. Is Meera correct?
- 5.A sector of a circle has an angle of 90° and an arc length of 15.7 cm. Using π = 3.14, work out the radius of the circle.
- 6.A goat is tied by a rope 7 m long to a post at a corner of a rectangular field, where two fences meet at a right angle. The goat can reach anywhere inside the field that the rope allows. Using π = 3.14, work out the area the goat can graze, to the nearest square metre.
- 7.A conservatory has a roof panel shaped like a regular octagon. Work out the interior angle of the octagon, then use it to work out the size of the reflex angle at the same vertex, on the outside of the roof panel.
- 8.Compasses are opened to exactly half the length of AB, and arcs are drawn centred at A and at B, to construct the perpendicular bisector of AB. Why does this fail?
- 9.Freya is designing a triangular flower bed. Two of its corners have equal angles, and the angle at the third corner is 40°. Work out the size of one of the two equal corner angles.
- 10.Two similar triangles have lengths in the ratio 3 : 4. The perimeter of the smaller triangle is 24 cm. Work out the perimeter of the larger triangle.
- 11.A shape is translated by the vector and then by the vector . Write down the single column vector that has the same effect as those two translations together.
- 12.A path goes from A(1, 1) to B(1, 5), then from B to C(6, 5). Work out the total length of the path from A to C.
- 13.Triangles ABE and CDE share the vertex E, where lines AC and BD cross at E. AE equals CE, and BE equals DE. Angle AEB and angle CED are formed as vertically opposite angles where the lines cross. Which condition proves that triangle ABE is congruent to triangle CDE?
- 14.A parallelogram has a base of 9 cm and a perpendicular height of 4 cm. Work out its area.
- 15.The point (5, −2) is reflected in the x-axis. Work out the coordinates of the image point.
