- 1.A picture frame is a rhombus with a diagonal of 16 cm and a diagonal of 12 cm. The two diagonals meet at right angles at their midpoints. Work out the length of one side of the rhombus.
- 2.A furniture catalogue drawing uses a scale of 1 cm to 1.5 m. A sofa in the drawing is measured as 7 cm long. What is the real length of the sofa, in metres?
- 3.A circle is drawn on a page. Write down how many radii can be drawn in the circle.
- 4.In triangle ABC the base BC is 10 cm long and the sloping side AB is 13 cm long. The perpendicular height from A down to BC is 12 cm. Work out the area of triangle ABC.
- 5.In an isosceles triangle each of the two base angles is 46°. Work out the size of the angle at the apex.
- 6.a is the column vector with top number 3 and bottom number 2. b is the column vector with top number −1 and bottom number 4. Work out a + b, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 7.A circular decoration has a radius of 10 cm. A ribbon costs £0.50 per centimetre and is fixed along the curved edge (the arc) of a sector-shaped section with an angle of 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the cost of the ribbon for this section.
- 8.Work out the exact value of sin 30° + cos 60°.
- 9.A window is made from a rectangle with a semicircle on top. The rectangle is 40 cm wide and 60 cm tall. The semicircle has the same width as the rectangle. Work out the total area of the window. Use π = 3.14. Give your answer to the nearest whole number.
- 10.Two similar flags have widths in the ratio 2 : 5. The width of the smaller flag is 8 cm. Work out the width of the larger flag.
- 11.A shop sells a scale model of a van. The model and the real van are similar shapes, with lengths in the ratio 1 : 24. The model is 18.5 cm long. Work out the length of the real van, giving your answer in metres.
- 12.A sailmaker cuts two triangular sail panels from a pattern. Panel X has a 10 m side, with angles of 50° and 75° at its two ends. Panel Y also has a 10 m side, with angles of 50° and 75° at its two ends, in the same arrangement. The sailmaker wants to check the panels will match exactly, without cutting a third measurement. Which condition proves the two panels are congruent?
- 13.Write down the exact value of cos 60°.
- 14.Triangle LMN has a right angle at M, with hypotenuse LN = 15 cm and LM = 9 cm. Triangle PQR has a right angle at Q, with hypotenuse PR = 15 cm and PQ = 9 cm. Which condition proves the two triangles are congruent?
- 15.Triangle T has a vertex at (2, 1). It is enlarged by a scale factor of 3, centre (0, 0). Work out the coordinates of the image of this vertex.
