- 1.p is the column vector with top number 5 and bottom number 2. q is the column vector with top number 1 and bottom number 6. Work out p + q, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 2.Triangle ABC is similar to triangle PQR. AB corresponds to PQ, and BC corresponds to QR. AB = 5 cm, PQ = 15 cm and BC = 7 cm. Work out the length of QR.
- 3.A sector of a circle has radius 4 cm and angle 90°. Using π = 3.14, work out the area of the sector.
- 4.The point M(3, 8) is translated by the vector . Write down the coordinates of the image of M.
- 5.Work out the exact value of sin 45° × cos 45°.
- 6.A tile manufacturer cuts a hexagonal tile so that all six sides measure exactly 4 cm, but a check shows only two pairs of the six interior angles are equal to each other, not all six angles. The customer's order specifies regular hexagonal tiles. Based on the check, is this tile a regular hexagon?
- 7.A ladder rests against a wall, making an angle of 60° with the ground. The ladder is 2 m long. Using the exact value of sin 60°, work out how high up the wall the ladder reaches, giving your answer in centimetres.
- 8.A radar station is at the origin of a grid, where each unit represents 1 km. A boat is detected at the point (7, 24). Work out the boat's distance from the station, then work out how many hours it will take the boat to reach the station travelling directly towards it at 5 km per hour.
- 9.Two triangles are congruent to each other. What does this tell you about their angles and sides?
- 10.A solid metal sphere has a radius of 5 cm. It is melted down and recast into a solid cylinder with the same radius, 5 cm. Work out the height of the cylinder, so that its volume equals the volume of the sphere. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 11.A rectangular photograph is 12 cm long and 5 cm wide. Work out the perimeter of the photograph.
- 12.Triangle JKL has a right angle at K, hypotenuse JL = 13 cm, and side JK = 5 cm. Triangle MNO has a right angle at N, hypotenuse MO = 13 cm, and side MN = 5 cm. Using only the facts given, and without working out any further lengths, write down the congruence condition that proves triangle JKL is congruent to triangle MNO.
- 13.A shape is translated by the vector and then by the vector . Write down the single column vector that has the same effect as those two translations together.
- 14.Two straight lines AB and CD cross at point O. Angle AOC = 74°. Work out angle AOD.
- 15.A cake recipe takes 135 minutes from start to finish. Write this time as hours and minutes.
