- 1.Triangle DEF has a right angle at E. Angle DFE = 60° and EF = 9 cm. Work out the exact length of DE.
- 2.What does the statement AB = CD mean, where A, B, C and D are all points?
- 3.The point A(2, 5) is translated to the point B(7, 3). Write down the column vector that describes this translation.
- 4.In a right-angled triangle, the two shorter sides are a and b, and the hypotenuse is c. Write down the correct statement of Pythagoras' theorem.
- 5.Triangle ABC has AB = 6 cm and BC = 9 cm, with angle A = 40°. Triangle DEF has DE = 6 cm and EF = 9 cm, with angle D = 40°. Meera says these facts prove the triangles are congruent by SAS. Is Meera correct?
- 6.A ship's radar shows a lighthouse at the point (12, −4) on a grid measured in nautical miles. The ship is at (2, 5). The ship sails along the vector that takes it directly to the lighthouse, then sails along that same vector again. Work out the ship's final position.
- 7.Two similar flags have widths in the ratio 2 : 5. The width of the smaller flag is 8 cm. Work out the width of the larger flag.
- 8.A line segment joins A(1, 1) and B(4, 7). Write down the sign of the gradient of this line.
- 9.A cone is cut by a flat plane parallel to its circular base, partway up between the base and the apex. What shape is the cross-section?
- 10.In triangle ABC the angle at A and the angle at C are equal. The side AB is extended beyond B, and the exterior angle formed at B measures 98°. Work out the size of the angle at A.
- 11.In a right-angled triangle one of the other two angles is 45°, and the side opposite that 45° angle is 7 cm. Work out the length of the hypotenuse. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 12.Point M lies exactly halfway between point A and point B, with A, M and B all on the same straight line. Which term correctly describes point M?
- 13.p is the column vector with top number 5 and bottom number 2. q is the column vector with top number 1 and bottom number 6. Work out p + q, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 14.In triangle ABC the base BC is 10 cm long and the sloping side AB is 13 cm long. The perpendicular height from A down to BC is 12 cm. Work out the area of triangle ABC.
- 15.A rectangular photograph is 12 cm long and 5 cm wide. Work out the perimeter of the photograph.
