- 1.A square-based pyramid has a square base and four identical triangular sloping faces, with its apex directly above the centre of the base. How many planes of symmetry does it have?
- 2.A plan of a school hall uses a scale of 1 : 250. A wall is drawn 3.4 cm long on the plan. Sam wants to know the wall's real length in metres. What is it?
- 3.A triangle has vertices A(1, 1), B(5, 1) and C(5, 4). Work out the lengths of AB, BC and CA, and write down whether triangle ABC is right-angled.
- 4.A robot on a grid moves by the vector , then by the vector , then by the vector . Write down the single column vector that has the same overall effect as these three moves.
- 5.Two angles are complementary. One of them is 35°. Work out the size of the other angle.
- 6.Two of the angles in a triangle are 50° and 70°. Work out the size of the third angle.
- 7.A sector of a circle has an angle of 150°. Work out what fraction of the circle's area the sector is.
- 8.Triangle ABC has angle A = 40°, angle B = 65° and AB = 10 cm. Triangle DEF has angle D = 40°, angle E = 65° and DE = 10 cm. Which condition proves the two triangles are congruent?
- 9.A polygon has 12 straight sides. What is the mathematical name for this polygon?
- 10.A cylindrical water tank has a solid hemispherical dome on top, both with radius 2 m. Work out the volume of the hemispherical dome alone. Use π = 3.14 and give your answer correct to 3 decimal places.
- 11.Lines AB and CD are parallel. A straight line EF crosses AB at point P and crosses CD at point Q. At P, angle APE = 65°. Angle APE and angle BPQ are vertically opposite. Angle BPQ and angle PQD are co-interior (allied) angles. Work out angle PQD.
- 12.A regular polygon has 12 sides. Work out the size of one exterior angle of the polygon.
- 13.A bottle holds 2 litres of water. A glass holds 250 ml. Work out how many of these glasses can be filled from one full bottle.
- 14.A rhombus has all four sides equal in length. Write down how many pairs of parallel sides a rhombus has.
- 15.Triangle PQR and triangle XYZ have angle P = angle X, angle Q = angle Y and angle R = angle Z, with no side lengths given for either triangle. Which of the following correctly describes the relationship between the two triangles?
