- 1.Point M lies exactly halfway between point A and point B, with A, M and B all on the same straight line. Which term correctly describes point M?
- 2.The diagram shows a solid resting on its side on a table. Work out which shape is its plan view, the view looking straight down from above.
- 3.A zip wire is fixed at an angle of 50° to the horizontal, running from a high platform down to the ground. The zip wire itself, from the platform to the ground, is 12 m long. Work out the horizontal distance covered by the zip wire. Give your answer correct to 1 decimal place.
- 4.p is the column vector with top number 2 and bottom number 3. q is the column vector with top number −1 and bottom number 4. Work out 2p + q, giving your answer as a column vector in the form (top, bottom).
- 5.A cuboid has a length, width and height that are all different from each other. How many planes of symmetry does it have?
- 6.In triangle PQR and triangle STU, PQ = ST, QR = TU and PR = SU. Write down the congruence condition that proves the two triangles are congruent.
- 7.A right-angled triangle has a hypotenuse of 10 cm and one of its other angles is 45°. Work out the length of one of the two shorter sides. Give your answer to 1 decimal place.
- 8.A point is translated twice by the vector . Write down the single column vector that describes the overall translation.
- 9.Triangle ABC has AB = 5 cm and BC = 7 cm. Triangle DEF has DE = 5 cm and EF = 7 cm. Which extra fact would prove the triangles are congruent by SAS?
- 10.A quadrilateral has angles of 100°, 85° and 95° at three of its vertices. Work out the fourth angle.
- 11.A transversal crosses a pair of parallel lines. At one line, the angle is (5x + 4)°. The corresponding angle at the other line is (3x + 24)°. Work out the value of x.
- 12.A window is made from a rectangle with a semicircle on top. The rectangle is 40 cm wide and 60 cm tall. The semicircle has the same width as the rectangle. Work out the total area of the window. Use π = 3.14. Give your answer to the nearest whole number.
- 13.In triangle ABC the angle at A is 90° and BC = 10 cm. For the angle at B, sin B = 3/5. Work out the length of AC.
- 14.Triangle ABC has angle A = 40°, angle B = 65° and AB = 10 cm. Triangle DEF has angle D = 40°, angle E = 65° and DE = 10 cm. Which condition proves the two triangles are congruent?
- 15.A triangular sail for a small boat has a base of 2.4 m and a height of 1.75 m. Sailcloth costs £12.50 per m². Work out the total cost of the sailcloth needed for the sail.
