- 1.A tin of beans has a mass of 650 g. A bag of rice has a mass of 1.35 kg. Work out the total mass, in kilograms.
- 2.A cyclist rides at a steady speed of 8 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 3.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 4.A jug holds 1.25 litres of water. Ella pours in another 400 ml. Work out the total volume, in litres.
- 5.A plane flies 2340 km at an average speed of 780 km/h. It departs at 08:20. Work out the arrival time, using the 24-hour clock.
- 6.A tap fills a 20 litre bucket in 2 minutes 30 seconds. Work out the rate of flow, in litres per minute.
- 7.Work out the total cost of 3 pens at 45p each and one notebook at £2.35. Give your answer in pounds.
- 8.A lorry travels 105 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes. Work out its average speed in miles per hour.
- 9.Petrol costs £1.48 per litre. Sam buys 35 litres and pays with three £20 notes. Work out his change.
- 10.Josh buys 7 pencils at 85p each. He pays with a £10 note. Work out his change.
- 11.A metal cube has a mass of 540 g and a volume of 60 cm³. Work out its density in g/cm³.
- 12.A car travels 180 km using 6 litres of fuel. Work out the car's fuel consumption in kilometres per litre, then work out how many kilometres it can travel on a full tank of 12 litres at this rate.
- 13.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £45 and then £28 for each hour she works. She is at a house from 09:15 until 12:45. Work out the total charge.
- 14.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 15.A coach journey has a 55 minute first leg, a 20 minute break and a 40 minute second leg. The coach leaves at 13:25. Work out the arrival time, using the 24-hour clock.
