- 1.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 2.Which of these units would be most appropriate to use when stating the mass of a small car?
- 3.A rectangular tile measures 45 cm by 0.6 m. Work out its area, in square centimetres.
- 4.A car travels 180 km using 6 litres of fuel. Work out the car's fuel consumption in kilometres per litre, then work out how many kilometres it can travel on a full tank of 12 litres at this rate.
- 5.A tin of beans has a mass of 650 g. A bag of rice has a mass of 1.35 kg. Work out the total mass, in kilograms.
- 6.A tin of soup has a mass of 450 g. A bag of potatoes has a mass of 2.6 kg. Work out the total mass, in kilograms.
- 7.A coach journey has a 55 minute first leg, a 20 minute break and a 40 minute second leg. The coach leaves at 13:25. Work out the arrival time, using the 24-hour clock.
- 8.A jar of jam costs £2.35. Tom buys 3 jars. He says the total cost is more than £7. Work out the exact total cost, and state whether Tom's claim is correct.
- 9.The density of a type of plastic is 0.9 g/cm³. Work out this density in kg/m³.
- 10.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £45 and then £28 for each hour she works. She is at a house from 09:15 until 12:45. Work out the total charge.
- 11.A market trader buys 8 melons at £1.35 each. He sells all of them for a total of £15.60. Work out his profit.
- 12.Bella's electricity supplier charges 28.5p per unit (kWh). Last month she used 340 units. Work out the total cost, giving your answer in pounds.
- 13.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 14.A metal cube has a mass of 540 g and a volume of 60 cm³. Work out its density in g/cm³.
- 15.Work out the total cost of 3 pens at 45p each and one notebook at £2.35. Give your answer in pounds.
