- 1.A bus leaves the station at 09:47 and arrives at its destination at 11:23. Work out the journey time.
- 2.A car travels 180 km using 6 litres of fuel. Work out the car's fuel consumption in kilometres per litre, then work out how many kilometres it can travel on a full tank of 12 litres at this rate.
- 3.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £45 and then £28 for each hour she works. She is at a house from 09:15 until 12:45. Work out the total charge.
- 4.A jar of jam costs £2.35. Tom buys 3 jars. He says the total cost is more than £7. Work out the exact total cost, and state whether Tom's claim is correct.
- 5.A jug holds 1.25 litres of water. Ella pours in another 400 ml. Work out the total volume, in litres.
- 6.A train leaves Leeds at 14:35. The journey takes 1 hour 50 minutes. Work out the time the train arrives. Give your answer using the 24-hour clock.
- 7.A tap fills a 20 litre bucket in 2 minutes 30 seconds. Work out the rate of flow, in litres per minute.
- 8.A market trader buys 8 melons at £1.35 each. He sells all of them for a total of £15.60. Work out his profit.
- 9.A lorry travels 105 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes. Work out its average speed in miles per hour.
- 10.A jug holds 1.8 litres of juice. Priya pours out 3/4 of a litre to fill a glass. Work out how much juice is left in the jug, in millilitres.
- 11.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 12.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 13.Work out the total cost of 3 pens at 45p each and one notebook at £2.35. Give your answer in pounds.
- 14.Bella's electricity supplier charges 28.5p per unit (kWh). Last month she used 340 units. Work out the total cost, giving your answer in pounds.
- 15.Josh buys 7 pencils at 85p each. He pays with a £10 note. Work out his change.
