- 1.A cyclist rides at a steady speed of 8 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 2.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 3.A market trader buys 8 melons at £1.35 each. He sells all of them for a total of £15.60. Work out his profit.
- 4.A train leaves Leeds at 14:35. The journey takes 1 hour 50 minutes. Work out the time the train arrives. Give your answer using the 24-hour clock.
- 5.A jug holds 1.8 litres of juice. Priya pours out 3/4 of a litre to fill a glass. Work out how much juice is left in the jug, in millilitres.
- 6.A piece of ribbon is 2.4 metres long. Kim cuts 40 cm from it. Work out the length of ribbon left, in millimetres.
- 7.A jug holds 1.25 litres of water. Ella pours in another 400 ml. Work out the total volume, in litres.
- 8.A tap fills a 20 litre bucket in 2 minutes 30 seconds. Work out the rate of flow, in litres per minute.
- 9.A flight departs at 21:35 and lands at 06:10 the following morning. Work out the total flight time.
- 10.The density of a type of plastic is 0.9 g/cm³. Work out this density in kg/m³.
- 11.A coach journey has a 55 minute first leg, a 20 minute break and a 40 minute second leg. The coach leaves at 13:25. Work out the arrival time, using the 24-hour clock.
- 12.A car travels 180 km using 6 litres of fuel. Work out the car's fuel consumption in kilometres per litre, then work out how many kilometres it can travel on a full tank of 12 litres at this rate.
- 13.A plumber charges a call-out fee of £45 and then £28 for each hour she works. She is at a house from 09:15 until 12:45. Work out the total charge.
- 14.Which of these units would be most appropriate to use when stating the mass of a small car?
- 15.A bus leaves the station at 09:47 and arrives at its destination at 11:23. Work out the journey time.
