- 1.A tap fills a 20 litre bucket in 2 minutes 30 seconds. Work out the rate of flow, in litres per minute.
- 2.Bella's electricity supplier charges 28.5p per unit (kWh). Last month she used 340 units. Work out the total cost, giving your answer in pounds.
- 3.Josh buys 7 pencils at 85p each. He pays with a £10 note. Work out his change.
- 4.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 5.A jar of jam costs £2.35. Tom buys 3 jars. He says the total cost is more than £7. Work out the exact total cost, and state whether Tom's claim is correct.
- 6.A tin of soup has a mass of 450 g. A bag of potatoes has a mass of 2.6 kg. Work out the total mass, in kilograms.
- 7.A market trader buys 8 melons at £1.35 each. He sells all of them for a total of £15.60. Work out his profit.
- 8.Rice is sold in a 400 g bag for £1.12 and in a 1.5 kg bag for £3.90. Work out how much less the rice in the larger bag costs per kilogram.
- 9.A lorry travels 105 miles in 1 hour 45 minutes. Work out its average speed in miles per hour.
- 10.A piece of ribbon is 2.4 metres long. Kim cuts 40 cm from it. Work out the length of ribbon left, in millimetres.
- 11.A metal cube has a mass of 540 g and a volume of 60 cm³. Work out its density in g/cm³.
- 12.A rectangular tile measures 45 cm by 0.6 m. Work out its area, in square centimetres.
- 13.A bus leaves the station at 09:47 and arrives at its destination at 11:23. Work out the journey time.
- 14.A coach journey has a 55 minute first leg, a 20 minute break and a 40 minute second leg. The coach leaves at 13:25. Work out the arrival time, using the 24-hour clock.
- 15.A flight departs at 21:35 and lands at 06:10 the following morning. Work out the total flight time.
