- 1.A charity raises money from a raffle and a cake sale in the ratio 5 : 3. Altogether the charity raises £320. Work out how much money the cake sale raised.
- 2.The error interval for the mass of a suitcase, m kg, is given as 22.5 ≤ m < 23.5. Write down the mass of the suitcase, correct to the nearest whole number.
- 3.A florist has 5 different flowers. Freya picks 3 of them to make a small bunch, and the order in which she picks them does not matter. Work out how many different bunches she could make.
- 4.Write these numbers in order, starting with the smallest: −1.4, 5/4, −6/5, 1.3, 0
- 5.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 6.A recipe uses 160 g of flour. Sam wants to increase the amount by 1/4. Work out the new amount of flour.
- 7.Work out (5 × 10⁴) ÷ (2 × 10⁻²). Give your answer in standard form.
- 8.Work out (4 × 10³) × (3 × 10¹). Give your answer in standard form.
- 9.A number, y, is equal to 8.2 when rounded to 1 decimal place. Write down the error interval for y.
- 10.A charity raises 8 × 10⁶ pounds. This total is shared equally among 2 × 10² local projects. Work out how much each project receives, in standard form.
- 11.A company's turnover is 5.6 × 10⁷ pounds, spread evenly across 3.5 × 10² shops. Work out the average turnover per shop, in standard form.
- 12.To estimate the cost of buying 38.7 m of rope at £21.40 per metre, both numbers are first rounded to 1 significant figure. Work out the estimate.
- 13.A recipe states that a cake needs 200 g of flour, correct to the nearest 25 g. Work out the smallest possible mass of flour, in grams, that could actually be used.
- 14.A shelf is 60 cm long, correct to the nearest 10 cm. Write down the upper bound for the length of the shelf, in centimetres.
- 15.Write 260,000 in standard form.
