- 1.The number of pages in a book is 240, correct to the nearest 10 pages. Write down the error interval for the actual number of pages, n.
- 2.The distance from the Earth to the Moon is 384,000 km. Write this distance in standard form, in kilometres.
- 3.A crowd of 8,400 people is recorded correct to the nearest 100. Work out the smallest possible number of people in the crowd.
- 4.A bag of flour is labelled 1.5 kg, correct to the nearest 0.1 kg. The true mass of the flour is m kg. Which inequality gives all the possible values of m?
- 5.A pair of trainers is priced at £80 online. The shop takes 25% off the price and then adds £10 for next-day delivery. Work out the total cost.
- 6.A café buys 18 boxes of teabags at £3.45 each, and sells all the teabags for £108 in total. Work out the café's profit.
- 7.A box stands on a table. The box exerts a force of 240 N on the table, and the base of the box has an area of 0.8 m². Work out the pressure the box exerts on the table, in N/m².
- 8.The rainfall in a town during April is recorded as 62.4 mm, correct to 1 decimal place. Write down the error interval for the actual rainfall, r mm.
- 9.A cheetah runs at a steady speed of 25 metres per second. Work out this speed in kilometres per hour.
- 10.Four friends share a restaurant bill of £53.90 equally. A calculator gives each share as 13.475. Work out how much each friend should pay.
- 11.The thickness of a sheet of card is 0.02384 cm. Write this thickness correct to 2 significant figures.
- 12.A cube-shaped storage box has edges of length 7 cm. A shelf can hold a total volume of 2,000 cm³. Work out the greatest number of these boxes that will fit in that volume.
- 13.A recipe uses 160 g of flour. Sam wants to increase the amount by 1/4. Work out the new amount of flour.
- 14.A piece of ribbon is 2.4 metres long. Kim cuts 40 cm from it. Work out the length of ribbon left, in millimetres.
- 15.The length of a pencil is 8.4 cm, correct to 1 decimal place. Using L for the length of the pencil in centimetres, write down the error interval for L.
