- 1.A piece of ribbon is 2.4 metres long. Kim cuts 40 cm from it. Work out the length of ribbon left, in millimetres.
- 2.A recipe uses 160 g of flour. Sam wants to increase the amount by 1/4. Work out the new amount of flour.
- 3.A jumper is reduced by 15% in a sale to a price of £42.50. Work out the original price.
- 4.Write these fractions in order, starting with the smallest: 2/3, 3/5, 5/6, 1/2
- 5.A restaurant adds a service charge of 15% to a bill of £120. Work out the service charge.
- 6.A car travels 180 km using 6 litres of fuel. Work out the car's fuel consumption in kilometres per litre, then work out how many kilometres it can travel on a full tank of 12 litres at this rate.
- 7.A water tank holds 80 litres when full. It currently contains 60 litres. Work out what fraction of the tank is empty.
- 8.A recipe states that a cake needs 200 g of flour, correct to the nearest 25 g. Work out the smallest possible mass of flour, in grams, that could actually be used.
- 9.Write 45,000 in standard form.
- 10.A café buys 18 boxes of teabags at £3.45 each, and sells all the teabags for £108 in total. Work out the café's profit.
- 11.Write 260,000 in standard form.
- 12.Rice is sold in a 400 g bag for £1.12 and in a 1.5 kg bag for £3.90. Work out how much less the rice in the larger bag costs per kilogram.
- 13.A plank of wood is 5 1/4 m long. Pieces of length 3/4 m are cut from it. Work out how many complete pieces of 3/4 m can be cut from the plank.
- 14.Work out (4 × 10³) × (3 × 10¹). Give your answer in standard form.
- 15.Four locations each record a temperature one winter morning. Which of these temperatures is the coldest?
