- 1.A sponsored walk raised £350 for charity. 20% of the money raised is spent on equipment. Work out how much is spent on equipment.
- 2.A charity raffle sells 240 tickets at £1.85 each. 40% of the money raised is given to a local hospital. Work out how much money the hospital receives.
- 3.Four friends share a restaurant bill of £53.90 equally. A calculator gives each share as 13.475. Work out how much each friend should pay.
- 4.A car is hired from 10:00 on Monday until 16:00 on Thursday. Work out the total length of the hire, in hours.
- 5.Two fair six-sided dice are rolled and their scores are added together. By listing the possible totals systematically, work out how many different totals are possible.
- 6.Work out (4 × 10³) × (3 × 10¹). Give your answer in standard form.
- 7.A number, n, is equal to 3.7 when rounded to 1 decimal place. Write down the error interval for n.
- 8.A bag holds 5 different sweets. Noah takes 2 of the sweets out of the bag together, so the order in which he takes them does not matter. Work out how many different pairs of sweets he could take.
- 9.A digital timer truncates every time to 1 decimal place. It shows a swimmer's time for one length as 12.3 seconds. Using t for the swimmer's actual time in seconds, write down the error interval for t.
- 10.Josh buys 7 pencils at 85p each. He pays with a £10 note. Work out his change.
- 11.After a price increase of 10%, a laptop costs £330. Work out the original price.
- 12.A recipe needs 0.485 kg of flour per cake. A bakery estimates its flour order by rounding this amount to 1 significant figure, then multiplying by the 60 cakes it plans to bake. Work out the bakery's estimate for the total flour needed, in kg.
- 13.A jug holds 1.8 litres of juice. Priya pours out 3/4 of a litre to fill a glass. Work out how much juice is left in the jug, in millilitres.
- 14.Write these three numbers in order, starting with the smallest: 7/20, 0.3, 32%
- 15.The error interval for the mass of a suitcase, m kg, is given as 22.5 ≤ m < 23.5. Write down the mass of the suitcase, correct to the nearest whole number.
