- 1.3.4 × 10⁵ is written as an ordinary number. Work out this number.
- 2.Work out (3 × 10²) × (2 × 10⁵). Give your answer in standard form.
- 3.A café offers 3 types of soup and 4 types of bread roll. Work out how many different combinations of one soup and one bread roll are possible.
- 4.Josh buys 7 pencils at 85p each. He pays with a £10 note. Work out his change.

- 9.A gym increases its membership price by 1/5. The original price is £60. Work out the new price.
- 10.A charity raises 8 × 10⁶ pounds. This total is shared equally among 2 × 10² local projects. Work out how much each project receives, in standard form.
- 11.A shelf is 60 cm long, correct to the nearest 10 cm. Write down the upper bound for the length of the shelf, in centimetres.
- 12.A company sells 4 × 10³ items per day, each priced at £2.50. It operates for 3 × 10² days a year. Work out the company's total revenue for the year. Give your answer in standard form.
- 13.A charity trek covers 830 miles over roughly 19 days. By rounding each number to 1 significant figure, work out an estimate for the number of miles walked per day.
- 14.A sponsored walk raised £350 for charity. 20% of the money raised is spent on equipment. Work out how much is spent on equipment.
- 15.Using only 20p coins and 10p coins, and at least one of each, work out how many different ways there are to make exactly 60p. List the possibilities systematically.
