- 1.Write the fraction 47/50 as a decimal.
- 2.A plane flies 2340 km at an average speed of 780 km/h. It departs at 08:20. Work out the arrival time, using the 24-hour clock.
- 3.A digital timer truncates every time to 1 decimal place. It shows a swimmer's time for one length as 12.3 seconds. Using t for the swimmer's actual time in seconds, write down the error interval for t.
- 4.Write 0.0038 in standard form.
- 5.The density of a type of plastic is 0.9 g/cm³. Work out this density in kg/m³.
- 6.Work out an estimate for 37 × 84, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 7.Write the mixed number 2 1/4 as an improper fraction.
- 8.In a box of counters the ratio of red counters to blue counters is 4 : 5. What fraction of the counters are blue?
- 9.A board game has 5 different character pieces and 4 different colour tokens. The dragon piece can only be used with the gold token. Work out how many different combinations of one character piece and one colour token are possible.
- 10.Nadia has £84. She spends 3/7 of it on a jacket and the rest on a bag. Work out the ratio of the amount spent on the jacket to the amount spent on the bag, in its simplest form.
- 11.A choir has sopranos, altos and tenors in the ratio 6 : 4 : 5. What fraction of the choir is not tenors?
- 12.Write 0.36 as a fraction in its simplest form.
- 13.A charity raises money from a raffle and a cake sale in the ratio 5 : 3. Altogether the charity raises £320. Work out how much money the cake sale raised.
- 14.Two fair six-sided dice are rolled together. One die is red and the other is blue. Work out how many different outcomes are possible.
- 15.Tickets for a fairground ride are sold in packs of 6. Tokens for the dodgems are sold in packs of 10. Yusuf wants to buy the smallest number of packs of each so that he ends up with the same number of ride tickets as dodgem tokens. Work out how many ride tickets that is.
