- 1.Write 0.25 as a fraction in its simplest form.
- 2.A florist has 5 different flowers. Freya picks 3 of them to make a small bunch, and the order in which she picks them does not matter. Work out how many different bunches she could make.
- 3.Work out 5/6 × 2/9, giving your answer in its simplest form.
- 4.Work out 6² − 4².
- 5.Tickets to a theme park cost £38.50 for an adult and £19.75 for a child. A family estimates the total cost for 4 adults and 3 children, by rounding each ticket price to the nearest £5. Work out their estimate for the total cost.
- 6.A machine fills bags of sugar and shows the mass of each bag to the nearest 10 g. A checker rejects any bag whose actual mass is less than 996 g. One bag shows a mass of 1,000 g on the machine. Decide whether this bag could be rejected, and give a reason for your answer.
- 7.Work out 5 + 3 × (9 − 6)
- 8.3/5 of a 5/6 litre bottle of juice is poured out. Work out the exact volume poured out, in litres.
- 9.A vending machine sells 4 types of crisps, 5 types of chocolate bar and 2 types of drink. Work out how many different combinations of one crisp packet, one chocolate bar and one drink can be bought.
- 10.A laptop costs £720. A carrying case for it costs 1/9 of the price of the laptop. Work out the cost of the carrying case.
- 11.In a fruit basket the ratio of bananas to oranges is 2 : 5. What fraction of the fruit are oranges?
- 12.A shortbread recipe uses flour and butter in the ratio 5 : 2. Yuki changes the recipe by doubling the amount of butter but keeping the amount of flour the same. Work out the fraction of the new mixture that is butter.
- 13.Work out 5⁰ + 5¹ + 5²
- 14.Work out an estimate for 588 ÷ 31, by rounding each number to 1 significant figure.
- 15.Work out 1 1/2 ÷ 3/4 exactly, giving your answer in its simplest form.
