- 1.Write 0.0038 in standard form.
- 2.Nadia has £84. She spends 3/7 of it on a jacket and the rest on a bag. Work out the ratio of the amount spent on the jacket to the amount spent on the bag, in its simplest form.
- 3.Write down the decimal that is equal to 3/5.
- 4.In standard form, 2,000 is written as 2 × 10ⁿ. Write down the value of n.
- 5.In a box of chocolates 5/8 are milk chocolates and the rest are dark chocolates. Work out the number of dark chocolates as a fraction of the number of milk chocolates.
- 6.A carpenter has a plank of wood 4.8 m long. She cuts off 3 pieces, each 0.9 m long, to make shelves. Work out the length of wood remaining.
- 7.Work out 15% of £40, using 10% and 5%.
- 8.A shop assistant says that 7.2 × 3.9 = 56.16. Work out an estimate for 7.2 × 3.9, by rounding each number to the nearest whole number, to show that the assistant’s answer cannot be correct.
- 9.Estimate the value of √45, giving your answer to the nearest whole number.
- 10.Sam compares 0.6 and 5/8 by comparing the digit 6 with the digit 5, and says that 0.6 is the larger number. Convert 5/8 to a decimal to find the correct larger value.
- 11.Two-digit numbers are made using the digits 1, 2, 3 and 4, and no digit may be used twice in the same number. Work out how many different two-digit numbers can be made.
- 12.Write down the symbol that makes this statement true: 3/10 ___ 0.3
- 13.Work out (−3) × 4 + 10
- 14.A charity raises money from a raffle and a cake sale in the ratio 5 : 3. Altogether the charity raises £320. Work out how much money the cake sale raised.
- 15.Write 0.35 as a fraction in its lowest terms.
