- 1.On a number line, point A is at −1. Point B is 4 units from point A. Write down the two possible positions of point B.
- 2.The population of a planet is 8 × 10⁹. Write this population as an ordinary number.
- 3.An allotment is divided into two plots in the ratio 2:3. The larger plot has an area of 18 m². Work out the fraction of the total area taken up by the smaller plot.

- 11.By listing systematically, work out how many two-digit multiples of 5 can be made using the digits 0, 3 and 5, if each digit can be used at most once and the number cannot start with 0.
- 12.A plank of wood is 5 1/4 m long. Pieces of length 3/4 m are cut from it. Work out how many complete pieces of 3/4 m can be cut from the plank.
- 13.A jug holds 1.25 litres of water. Ella pours in another 400 ml. Work out the total volume, in litres.
- 14.To estimate the cost of buying 38.7 m of rope at £21.40 per metre, both numbers are first rounded to 1 significant figure. Work out the estimate.
- 15.Insert one pair of brackets into 2 + 3 × 5 − 1 so that the calculation is equal to 24. Which calculation is correct?
