- 1.A florist has 60 red roses and 84 white roses. She wants to make identical bunches using all the flowers, with the greatest possible number of bunches. Work out how many red roses will be in each bunch.
- 2.A carton of orange juice holds 1.35 litres. Ruby pours the juice equally into 4 identical glasses. Work out how much juice is in each glass, giving your answer as a fraction of a litre in its simplest form.
- 3.In a chess club, 3/8 of the members are girls and the rest are boys. Write down the ratio of girls to boys.
- 4.Work out √25 + 4² − 12 ÷ 3
- 5.A digital timer truncates every time to 1 decimal place. It shows a swimmer's time for one length as 12.3 seconds. Using t for the swimmer's actual time in seconds, write down the error interval for t.
- 6.A quiz has 50 questions. Freya answers 10% of them incorrectly. Work out how many questions she answers incorrectly.
- 7.A café is planning its lunch menu. It will offer one soup from 3 choices and one sandwich from 4 choices, but the mushroom soup, one of the 3 soups, will only be served with the cheese sandwich, one of the 4 sandwiches, on a normal day. Work out how many different soup-and-sandwich combinations are available on a normal day.
- 8.In a car park the ratio of vans to cars is 2 : 7. Work out the number of vans as a fraction of the number of cars.
- 9.The mass of a parcel is 3 kg, correct to the nearest kilogram. Which of these masses is not possible for the parcel?
- 10.Work out 5⁰ + 5¹ + 5²
- 11.A number, n, is equal to 3.7 when rounded to 1 decimal place. Write down the error interval for n.
- 12.Oliver drives 95 km at an average speed of 50 km/h. Work out an estimate for the time the journey takes, by rounding the distance to the nearest 100 km.
- 13.Simplify (y³)⁴, giving your answer as a single power of y.
- 14.A necklace is made from red beads and gold beads in the ratio 7 : 3. What fraction of the beads are gold?
- 15.Work out 2/5 + 1/4, giving your answer in its simplest form.
