- 1.A number, n, is a multiple of both 6 and 9. Work out the smallest possible value of n that is greater than 20.

- 9.The number 72 can be written as 2³ × 3², and the number 108 can be written as 2² × 3³. Work out the highest common factor of 72 and 108.
- 10.The population of a planet is 8 × 10⁹. Write this population as an ordinary number.
- 11.A digital timer truncates every time to 1 decimal place. It shows a swimmer's time for one length as 12.3 seconds. Using t for the swimmer's actual time in seconds, write down the error interval for t.
- 12.A newspaper reports that 48,000 people attended a festival. The figure is correct to the nearest thousand. Which statement about the number of people who attended must be true?
- 13.A shortbread recipe uses flour and butter in the ratio 5 : 2. Yuki changes the recipe by doubling the amount of butter but keeping the amount of flour the same. Work out the fraction of the new mixture that is butter.
- 14.Work out an estimate for 89 + 52, by rounding each number to the nearest 10.
- 15.Write 12 as a product of its prime factors.
