- 1.A card is taken at random from an ordinary pack of 52 playing cards. The probability that the card is a diamond is 1/4. Work out the probability that the card is not a diamond.
- 2.At a fair, a game costs £2 to play. The probability of winning the game is 0.15, and each win pays out £10. Amir plays the game 200 times. Work out how much money Amir should expect to lose in total.
- 3.A six-sided dice is rolled 12 times. It lands on a six 4 times. Erin says that the dice must be biased. Which of these is the best comment on Erin's statement?
- 4.A fair coin is flipped again and again. After the first 10 flips there have been 7 heads. After 1000 flips there have been 528 heads. Which statement best describes what these results show?
- 5.Two ordinary fair dice are rolled. Work out the probability that both dice show the same score.
- 6.Two events are independent. The first has probability 2/5 and the second has probability 1/3. Work out the probability that both events happen.
- 7.A Venn diagram shows two sets, P and Q, inside a universal set. n(P) = 34, n(Q) = 27, n(P ∩ Q) = 11, and n(ξ) = 90, where ξ is the universal set. Work out n((P ∪ Q)′), the number of elements in neither P nor Q.
- 8.A table shows how two Year 10 classes did in a spelling test. In class A, 18 out of 24 pupils passed. In class B, 21 out of 30 pupils passed. Which class had the greater proportion of pupils passing?

- 12.Two ordinary fair dice are rolled. Work out the probability that the difference between the two scores is 1.
- 13.A garden centre tests 250 packets of seeds for germination, recording the results on a frequency tree. 68% of the 250 packets germinated successfully, and the rest did not. Work out how many packets germinated successfully.
- 14.A fair spinner has 10 equal sections, numbered 1 to 10. The spinner is spun 150 times. Work out how many times you would expect it to land on a number greater than 7.
- 15.A fair spinner has 6 equal sections, and 2 of the sections are coloured purple. The spinner is spun 180 times. Work out how many times you would expect it to land on purple.
