- 1.3 kg of apples cost £6. Work out the cost of 5 kg of the same apples.
- 2.A car uses fuel at a constant rate. It uses 24 litres of fuel to travel 300 km. Assuming the same rate, work out how many litres of fuel are needed for a journey of 175 km.
- 3.y is directly proportional to x. When x = 4, y = 10. Work out the value of y when x = 6.
- 4.3 pencils cost £1.20. Work out the cost of 7 pencils.
- 5.6 identical printers can print a batch of exam papers in 40 minutes, all working at the same rate. Working at the same rate, work out how many minutes 4 of these printers would take to print the same batch.
- 6.Two numbers are in the ratio 2 : 3. The smaller number is 8. Work out the larger number.
- 7.A factory machine produces bottles at a constant rate. In 45 minutes it produces 810 bottles. The factory needs 2,160 bottles for an order. Working at the same rate, work out how many minutes it will take to produce the order.
- 8.Work out the value of x when 4/x = 2/5.
- 9.The exchange rate is £1 = €1.15. Convert £200 to euros.
- 10.A recipe for pancakes uses 240 g of flour to make pancakes for 6 people. Work out how many grams of flour are needed to make pancakes for 15 people, using the same recipe.
- 11.8 identical pens cost £6.40 in total. Work out the cost of 5 of the same pens.
- 12.A shop sells rope by the metre. 3 m costs £7.50 and 5 m costs £11.00. Does this data show that the cost is directly proportional to the length of rope bought? Choose the correct verdict and reason.
- 13.Two cars travel at constant speeds. Car A travels 150 km in 3 hours. Car B travels 180 km in 4 hours. Which car is faster, and what is its speed?
- 14.Paint costs £14.40 for every 20 m² of wall it covers. Assuming the same rate, work out the cost of the paint needed to cover 56 m² of wall.
- 15.A journey takes 4 hours at an average speed of 60 km/h. The time taken is inversely proportional to the average speed. Work out how long the same journey takes at an average speed of 80 km/h.
